Senior Cycle 1
Senior Cycle year 1 begins in the first week of September. This academic year of two semesters is divided into five seven-week rotations comprising modules in General Practice, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry and Medicine and Surgery. The medicine and surgery module is a blended module covering apthamology, orthhinolarynology (ENT) and aspects of Medicine and Surgery including patient safety, prescribing, ethics and clinical competencies.
For the greater part of this year students are attached to clinical teams in RCSI Bahrain's three affiliated teaching hospitals: King Hamad University Hospital, Bahrain Defence Force Hospital and Salmaniya Medical Complex. The students’ clinical immersion is underpinned by their participation in a structured programme of active teaching and formative assessment delivered by senior academic staff in the below departments. Depending on the module, written and clinical summative assessments are carried out at the end of each rotation or the end of the academic year.
These are the specialty rotations that students encounter in senior cycle 1
