Junior Cycle

Junior Cycle (3 semesters, 11 modules):

The JC is an introductory integrated course in the clinical application of basic medical science, covering anatomy (including histology and embryology), physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, behavioural science, and population and evidence-based health. The course content is organised substantially around the systems of the body (e.g. the cardiovascular and respiratory systems).

The programme incorporates a systems-based lecture schedule, supported by tutorials, instruction in basic clinical skills, physiological measurement, anatomical studies and imaging. Elements of the programme, such as histology, are delivered online. A key element of the curriculum gives practical experience through an Early Patient Contact programme where students learn application of basic sciences in the clinical environment and explore the patient experience.
