Admissions Frequently Asked Questions
Can I choose to apply for the 5 or the 6 year medical programme?
Applicants apply to the 6 year medical programme, the Admission Committee will then place students in the appropriate year for which they are deemed eligible.
What Undergraduate courses does RCSI Bahrain offer?
RCSI offers Undergraduate courses in Medicine and Nursing.
What are the RCSI Bahrain's main teaching hospitals?
RCSI Bahrain's main teaching hospitals are the BDF Hospital, King Hamad University Hospital and Salmaniya Medical Complex and a number of healthcare centres.
What degree does RCSI Bahrain award?
The University confers degrees on its graduates in medicine, nursing and masters. Graduates of the University are awarded degrees from both the RCSI Bahrain and the National University of Ireland. In addition, graduates in medicine also receive Licentiates from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. The degrees awarded by RCSI Bahrain are recognised and attested by the Higher Education Council in Bahrain.
Is the RCSI Bahrain degree recognised in all Countries?
RCSI Bahrain Graduates are awarded degrees of the National University of Ireland and RCSI Bahrain. The degrees are internationally recognised but as with many degrees there may be a need for Graduates wishing to practice in some countries to sit local licensing examinations. For example, Graduates wishing to practice in the USA or Canada are required to sit the USMLE and Canadian Board examination respectively. Similarly It is advisable to check with the Medical Council of the country you intend to practice in and familiarise yourself with the local license requirements. Unfortunately we are unable to accept Saudi Nationals to our programmes as they are not currently recognised by the Ministry of Education in Saudi Arabia. However, we are working towards having our programmes recognised in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and will amend this policy upon receiving recognition.
Is RCSI Bahrain accredited by the Irish Medical Council?
Yes, the medical programme has recently recieved accreditation from the Irish Medical Council. The accreditation is based on the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME) standards, which are the highest standards available in medical education.
Can I have a tour of RCSI Bahrain?

What is the difference between the 5/6 year medical programme offered in RCSI Bahrain and the 5/6 year medical programme offered in RCSI Dublin?
The medical programmes offered in Bahrain and Dublin are the same - both use the same curriculum and students sit for the same examinations.
Can students attending the Medical Programme in Bahrain transfer to the Programme in Dublin and vice versa?
Students registered in the RCSI Bahrain programmes and students registered in the RCSI Dublin programmes cannot transfer from one campus to the other. They can however participate in a Mobility Programme which allows them to study for one full Semester in the alternate RCSI facility (i.e. the RCSI student in Bahrain can spend one Semester in Dublin and vice versa). The exchange is made possible as a result of a) using the same curriculum in both Colleges and b) by running the programmes in parallel. The Mobility Programme offers students in both campuses a wonderful opportunity to experience life in another environment and culture.
What do I do if I am experiencing difficulties with my RCSI online application?
Please ensure that you are applying when the university is accepting applications. If you are experiencing difficulties please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org and indicate what the difficulty is.
Can I have the application form sent to me by post?
No, all applicants applying directly to RCSI Bahrain must complete the online application.
Are students interviewed as part of the application process?
Shortlisted applicants are interviewed as part of the application process.
Do you offer any English Language Courses?
No, RCSI Bahrain does not offer English language courses. However, the Student Success Centre and the English Department offers support in the English language.
As a North American applicant where do I find information about residencies and returning to the USA and Canada after Graduation?
All North American applicants should apply to RCSI via the Atlantic Bridge Programme. The Atlantic Bridge offices are located in Newport Beach, California. Given the different time zones between Bahrain and North America, we feel that Atlantic Bridge provides an enhanced service to our North American applicants. Atlantic Bridge has detailed information on their website for USA and Canadian applications in relation to Residencies and returning to North America after Graduation.
When do RCSI Bahrain's Programmes commence?
All programmes follow the normal academic calendar i.e. September - May/June each year. The exception to this is the BSc in Nursing - Bridging Programme which has an additional intake in January. Academic calendars and a schedule of orientation will be available in the Student Life section on our website and circulated to new students in the weeks prior to the commencement date.
Is RCSI Bahrain approved for student loans in Canada?
RCSI Bahrain has been designated as an "eligible institution for student financial assistance purposes" in the different provinces in Canada which means eligible students may apply for provincial and federal funding to help them with the cost of their post-secondary education through loans, grants, scholarships, and other programs.
